The Korean War
by
Lauren Kilby
We headed into battle, our heads were carried high,
The life of a soldier, it sounded good enough to try.
We felt brave and courageous as we entered enemy grounds,
But the sight of this dreadful place, was enough to make you frown.
The soldiers that came before us, now the dirt beneath our feet,
Their bodies lay torn and forgotten, it was enough to make you weep.
Their wounds were all cut open, their allies had run away,
So many lives were taken, to this very day.
It was the 1950's when the war had first begun,
Families were separated, every single one.
My past was but a memory that was soon to fade away,
The future ahead of me is where I wanted to stay.
I wanted to be a hero, just like my old man,
Mum had tried to stop me, but I had to lend a hand.
Within 2 minutes we were surrounded, I felt very scared,
I fought against the rival, against a boy like me.
That's when I came to realise that I was just 16.
