Growing Older
by
Lauren Kilby
The days will pass as we grow older,
The nights will darken and become colder,
The morning light will cease to be,
The rays of the sun no longer seen,
Back in our days, I heard you say,
I’d sit and listen, attention I’d pay,
Back in those days, you would begin,
Stories told over and over again,
Back in our days, we had no money,
No CD Players always pumping,
Instead of cars, we rode bikes,
Candles were our only lights,
Things have changed, is where she’d end,
I got up to leave her room right then,
I never thought her road would bend,
I sat in the waiting room, by the hospital corridor,
I was told that she would be no more,
I dropped to my knees upon the floor,
I entered her room and looked around,
There was no one at all, her bed I found,
I knew she had no relatives,
And I must have been her only friend,
But things have changed since then,
The days have passed, now we are older,
The nights have darkened and become colder,
The morning light has ceased to be,
But the rays of the sun will soon be seen.
