Blazing Statues
By Mila Clarke
In your arms and forever at peace,
A subtle heaven, my home in your heart,
May the melodies of angels never come to cease.
Pull me close, know my love,
My warmth flooding through you,
Soar on hot currents, we fly free as doves.
Draw me in, wrap me in you,
Pour your tears into my eyes,
Remember the last, never leaving the new.
We stand as one, stillness in storms,
The past and the present facing forth,
Like blazing statues, our love, frozen but warm.
Hands fall to waist, your eyes lost in mine,
Wrenched backwards but dragged further in,
You blink to escape, such cruelty to be kind.
Kiss my forehead, embrace me so tightly,
Bitter sweet tang of the last kiss goodbye,
Some rush to love but none leave it lightly.
Turn from me, torn from me, two souls ripped,
With your dying footsteps, my heartbeat ends,
Gone is my rock, the steadying shoulders I gripped.
A lone flame gutters; I am its dying light,
My statue, unsupported, leans to fall but stops,
Flaring hopes burst the ice, one last will to fight…
Weary steps, following your trail, on with the struggle,
Search for you by the dwindling day,
Lean into evening strangers; reach out for a torturous cuddle.
The empty hole you left in the sheets captures my sight,
I drown on the sunken Eider-down island,
Float on the surface, lying cold and naked in moonlight.
Limbs heavy, squandered lonesome seeking hours,
Spirit battered, aching and bruised,
My broken statue crumbles and cowers.
A star breaks, gentle lips brush my tears away,
Air leaves my lungs as I breathe back your life,
My fire roaring again, you return meaning to pain.
Back in your arms, once more at peace,
I am your heaven, alive in your heart,
Burn our old melodies with our fire that will not cease.
Hold me, a reminder of love,
My warmth flooding through you,
Soar on hot currents, we fly free as doves.
Draw you in, wrap you in me,
Taste your sweet words on my tongue,
Trickle bleeding tears, the release we dared not believe.
We stand as one, stillness in storms,
The past and the present facing forth,
Like blazing statues, our love, night's death and our dawn.
