Mobile Madness
by Wendy Tilby
You carry it around in your dressing gown pocket so the kids don’t know like a child’s security blanket
Your whole day hanging in the balance of a few little words
Waiting, waiting until you can’t breathe
It reaches into your heart and stops it beating
You will it to buzz but they’re not the one and you hate with a vengeance,
Snapping at the kids who have no idea why
It is your universe, the only thing that matters
You analyse each message with a fine toothcomb
A whole day’s happiness depending on a kiss
Sometimes it’s your best friend, sometimes the destroyer of your soul sending you mad
You wonder, if he knew of his power, would he care?
