I Wish

by
Elizabeth Grant

I wish life were more poetic,
Less laissez faire.
Not so damned apathetic
More curved, less square.

I wish life were more romantic,
Less in your face.
Not so dark and melodramatic,
Less concrete and more lace.

I wish life were more peaceful,
Less anger and rage.
Not so pressurised and stressful,
More time to sit and turn a page.

I wish in life we were more grateful,
For the things we do not have to bear.
Not so concerned with being baleful,
More happy with the world we share.
